The United States Ski & Snowboard Association is looking for future Olympic acrobatic athletes ages 14-19 to participate in our Elite Aerial Development Program (EADP) in Lake Placid NY or our Western Development Aerial Program "Fly Freestyle" in Park City UT. Athletes ages 13 and under are encouraged to apply so coaches may consider them for next year’s camps.
The EADP and Fly Freestyle have converted retired acrobatic athletes from sports like gymnastics, trampoline, diving, tumbling, etc (that can't necessarily ski) into Olympic athletes in the sport of Aerial Skiing! U.S. Olympian, Ashley Caldwell, made it to the Olympic final in Vancouver 2010 after only two years in the EADP.
Watch the video for an exhibition of the skill level expected of those earning invitations to try out camp. Click TRY OUT to submit your 60-second acrobatic highlight audition or submit for a friend and you could earn an invitation to try out for the EADP, learn from US Ski Team members, World Champions and Olympic Medalists.
Selection will be based on votes, ratings and coach’s discretion. Get as creative as you like and share your story – the world is waiting! Good luck! YouTube's video editing tools make it easy. To use, click HERE
How do we select? The Tryout Camp athletes will be selected based on their number of votes, overall ranking and the discretion of our head coaches. It doesn't matter if you are a gymnast, diver, trampoline athlete, tumbler or just plain acrobatic, we would love to see your video!
What if you are selected for a Tryout Camp? You will be invited to a camp in either Park City (June 24-29, 2014) with Fly Freestyle or Lake Placid (June 28- July 3, 2014). Written parental or guardian consent must be provided. Parents & coaches are welcome to attend most activities at the camps.
What happens at the Tryout Camps? If you are selected for a Tryout Camp, we will contact you with all the details. You will get to participate in the most fun and challenging camp ever with about 15 other athletes who are new to Aerial Skiing. Again, it doesn’t matter if you can’t ski. The Tryout Camps are designed to gradually introduce you to the sport of Aerial Skiing.
You will take part in a variety of fun activities including bouncing trampoline, trampoline into the pool, learning how to ski off a small water ramp into a pool, trampoline onto landing mats, bungee assisted spotting rigs, fun recreation, team building activities and more! Our coaches are former Olympic medalists and are experts at introducing you to the sport and making it fun!
What if you excel at one of the camps? You could earn a Fly Freestyle Scholarship or be named to the EADP.
What if you make the Elite Aerial Development Program? If you are successful in getting an invite to a Tryout Camp and you make it into the Elite Aerial Development Program, you will be given free year-
round coaching by former Olympians and coaches who have trained Olympic champions. You will be enrolled in our education program and will also get free year-round housing at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, meals provided and the chance to win Olympic gold one day for Team U.S.A. as an Aerial Skier. For those who cannot train in Lake Placid, coaches will outline a clear path for excelling in Aerial Skiing outside of the EADP.
